Frequently Asked Questions

We know you may have questions. Here are some helpful answers to guide you before getting started.

What is a sliding-fee scale?

We believe that quality counselling services should be affordable for all people, so we provide one of the most generous sliding fee scales ($40 – $200 per 50 minute session) in Edmonton. Our affordable counselling rates are determined based on each client’s individual needs and apply to both short and long-term counselling.

Many of our therapists offer direct billing with certain insurance companies. If we are not able to direct-bill, a detailed receipt will be provided so that you can submit for reimbursement. If you are hoping to use an insurance policy for coverage, it is important that you check in advance to see what type of coverage you have (amount covered per session, whether your plan covers Psychologists/ Social Workers/ Certified Counsellors, etc.).

Yes, we offer in-person, online (video), and phone sessions, depending on client preference.

This varies widely based on each client’s individual circumstances and is something your therapist will discuss with you during your intake. We often recommend more frequent sessions to start (ie. weekly or bi-weekly) to gain momentum, with a natural transition to less frequent sessions over the longer term. The number of sessions required depends on what a client is wanting to work on; for example, developing strategies for managing a specific acute issue in their life vs. understanding long-standing relationship patterns or processing trauma.

A typical therapy session is 50-minutes, but this may vary depending on client need and the type of therapeutic approach being utilized.

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of counselling and we believe that the delicate nature of the therapeutic relationship is to be built on trust and transparency between the counsellor and the client. We follow the guidelines set out in our relevant Codes of Ethics (Canadian Counselling Association, Code of Ethics; Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists; etc.), keeping all information shared during therapy confidential, within legal and ethical limits. We prioritize your privacy and any limits to confidentiality will be discussed with you during your intake.

No, however, we welcome practitioners and clients of all faiths and traditions and we draw on the timeless wisdom that can be found in many of the world’s religions.
